Hello, my name is Rowan Cooke and I live on King Island, in Tasmania.
I am someone who likes to observe the world and think deeply about the problems that shape our society.
In recent years, a number of issues have caught my attention that I feel are underpinned by a lack of communication, cooperation, and community in everyday life.
This website and blog are a place for me to refine my thinking, improve my writing, and develop as a communicator and content maker. My goal is simple: to explore ideas, ask questions, and hopefully contribute in some small way to making the world a better place.
I believe strongly in holding power to account—whether that power sits with politicians, institutions, or large corporate leaders.
I studied a diploma at the University of Tasmania, and over the years I’ve explored many different pursuits, including stand-up comedy, podcasting, and political activism around housing issues. More recently, I was elected as a councillor in a by-election, which has given me a firsthand view of how local government shapes everyday life in small communities.
MY BLOG
Here, my writing covers a wide range of topics, from sociological observations and opinion pieces to philosophical questions, cultural analysis, and commentary on the world around us.
I’m interested in how people live, how societies function, how power operates, and how meaning is shaped through politics, media, technology, and everyday life. Some pieces are serious and analytical; others are more personal, reflective, or grounded in pop culture.
Just as importantly, I want this blog to help build a community of curious people — people who want to think more deeply, discuss ideas openly, and engage with media, technology, culture, and society in a thoughtful way.
